Chance The Rapper's 'Surf' First Week Downloads

by Sermon

It's not officially on the charts because it's a free album.  But Surf, Chance The Rapper's latest project with The Social Experiment, just posted some impressive first week download numbers.

In a tweet below, Chance revealed that 618,000 people downloaded the free album with a total of over 10 million individual track downloads. If those were sales (obviously an enormous if), Surf would have had the best Hip Hop opening of the year, topping Drake's If You're Reading This, It's Too Late.

Could Chance's success encourage iTunes to open up a section for free projects with its own chart one day?
