Cardi B Explains Why She's "Cardi B"

by HHL JT

Cardi B was born Belcalis Almanzar. If you're wondering how she got Cardi B from that, you are in luck.

The "Bodak Yellow" star did The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night and she used that national stage to explain the origin of her stage name.

"My sister's name is Hennessy, right?" she told Fallon . "So everybody used to call me Bacardi, so I always call myself Bacardi, right? And then it was my Instagram name—Bacardi, Bacardi B—but for some reason, my Instagram kept getting deleted and I think it was Bacardi (the liquor company) that had something to do with it. So I just shortened it to Cardi B."

We guess this destroys our theory that the B stands for butthole.

During the interview, she also discussed the extremely large and expensive engagement ring Offset got her.

“He always used to tell me, ‘I’m gonna marry you!’ and it’s just like, ‘Hm, it’s the right thing to do,'” she said. “I knew he was going to give me a really expensive gift because he wasn’t there for my birthday. But I thought he was going to give me a watch or something, but he just went out his way. OK?”
