Busta Rhymes On Why Kendrick, Cole & Chance Get More Respect Than Drake

No one in Hip Hop can touch Drake's sales.

J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, JAY-Z, and Eminem have all dropped albums in the past year or so, and none have come all that close to what Drake's done with his last two albums, Views and now Scorpion.

While Scorpion's opening week of 732,000 SPS is a significant drop from the 1.06 million Views did, the album is still easily number one after three weeks and is headed for many platinums. Taylor Swift and Adele are the only other two artists in any genre who can do (and in their cases top) Drake's numbers.

Despite this, Busta Rhymes doesn't think Drake is doing his job at the same level Kendrick, Cole, Chance The Rapper and Childish Gambino are.

Why? Because Drake gets spun at the clubs rather than gets honored at the Grammy awards.

“J. Cole is doing his job. Kendrick doing his job. Chance the Rapper doing his job. Childish Gambino is doing his job. These are the newer dudes," Busta Bust told The Daily Beast. "They’re doing it more than the older dudes as far as the music is concerned. They out here talking that shit! They shooting the videos. They’re making those messages speak volumes. They’re having super success with it. Kendrick ain’t got no records in the club—he taking all the Grammys home. You might hear Future in the club. You might hear Drake in the club. But Kendrick took all the Grammys home. Chance the Rapper taking all the Grammys home. Childish Gambino. At the end of the day, people respect substance.”

For the record, Drake has three Grammys. Kendrick has ten and Chance has three. (Gambino has one, Cole doesn't have any and neither does Busta.)

What do you think of Busta's metric of Grammys over sales and playability? It strikes us as not the strongest one to judge Hip Hop (or really any) music with.
