Big Sean Reveals the Paltry Advance Good Music & Kanye Gave him

by HHL JT

Last month, Charlamagne revealed that Kanye West and Good Music owe Big Sean $3 million and that Kanye won't give Sean back his masters, even though he claimed on social media he was going to do so.

"I hope one day Big Sean tells his story. Kanye West owes Big Sean a whole lot of money.  He got Big Sean in a very terrible contract.  To be out here screaming about giving folks their masters back ... Kanye West owes Big Sean three million dollars.  Kanye West gets half of Big Sean's profits and half of Sean's royalties and Kanye wouldn't agree to Big Sean getting his masters back from Def Jam," CTG explained.

Sean hasn't yet told his full story.  But he did open up a little in an interview with Fat Joe about his record deal with Ye.

According to Sean, he got a paltry advance in 2007 from GOOD and then needed to make it last because he wouldn't drop an album until 2011.

"He just signed me off of he straight up heard me rap.  I had nothing going so, yeah my first advance -- I don't even want to say the number," Sean explained.

Fat Joe wondered if it was 50K.

"My first advance was $15,000.  Everyone around me was like he signed to Kanye, he signed to Kanye," Sean continued, explaining that others expectations didn't meet his financial reality.

Sean also gave some insight into his relationship with Kanye and GOOD in his verse on the new Benny The Butcher track Timeless.

“Honestly, I’m probably gon’ be booked ’til I’m on the next chapter / Signed a slave deal, now a n*gga up, ownin’ my masters / Watch me turn good into great / It’s first steps to everything, even takin’ leaps of faith”
