by Daryl Nelson

In 2021 it was reported that Benny The Butcher inked a deal with Def Jam, a move that some thought he shouldn't have made

The common opinion was the Buffalo rapper had a lot of success with Griselda and people encouraged him to stay on that label, which was founded by his cousin, Westside Gunn.

Even Jay-Z told Benny to stay with Griselda, which Benny talked about on a recent episode of the My Expert Opinion podcast. [Head to the 7:08-mark]

"[Jay-Z said try] to keep Griselda together," the Burden of Proof rapper explained. "It just ain’t go that way."

Benny also explained why leaving his cousin's label worked out for him tremendously.

“The best case scenario happened," he said about signing to a major. "We successful. If I was still on them n*ggas show bill, if I wasn’t on my own tour yet, then it’s some bullsh*t that went on … N*ggas spreading their wings."

Do you think Benny made the right move by leaving Griselda?
