Beastie Boys' 'Licensed To Ill' Goes Diamond

by HHL Editors

The Recording Industry Association of America has certified the Beastie Boys' debut album 'Licensed to Ill' Diamond.

That means the 1986 classic has sold over 10 million copies in the United States. It becomes the seventh Hip Hop album to reach this distinction and the first one from the '80s.

The other six are:

Outkast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (11.4 million) Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP (11 million) Eminem's The Eminem Show (10.3 million) The Notorious B.I.G.'s Life After Death (10.2 million) MC Hammer's Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em (10 million) 2Pac's  All Eyez on Me (10 million)

Speakerboxx/The Love Below and Life After Death were double albums, so the RIAA counts each purchase as two.
