Akon had a chance to sign Drake after the youngster was brought to him by Canadian rapper-producer Kardinal Offishall around 2008. He didn't. And it was because he sounded too much like Eminem.
"At the time, believe it or not, Drake sounded more like Eminem," Akon said of Drake. "That's every artists' development. You can see the difference between that demo and 'Best I Ever Had'."
Once Drake's So Far Gone mixtape dropped, Drake's price got too high for Akon.
"That's when Kardi was like 'N***a, I told you this n***a was going to be the shit. I said, 'well, reach out.' He said, 'you can but the lowest bid right not is a million.'"
Do you think Drake would have had turned into Drake if he was signed by Akon, and not Lil Wayne and Baby?
