Akon Explains Why Africans Have Moved Beyond Slavery

by HHL JT

During a chat with DJ Vlad,  Senegal native Akon addressed Africa's role in slavery.  He acknowledges Africans were part of the slave trade but said they're beyond that now.

"In Senegal, we've overcome the thought of slavery.  People have lived and moved way beyond the slavery idea and concept and mindstate," Akon said.

"It's also the art of letting the past go and looking to the future.  I think in the US they have the stigma of not letting go of the past and blaming the past for any mishap or disappointment.  As long as you hold onto that past, it's a lot of weight.  And it's hard to move forward and move fast when got weight on your back, you gotta let it go."

Vlad then brought up reparations, which Akon said are never going to happen.

"African Americans have to understand their worth and realize America never was going to make up for any of that.   They're not sorry.  Do you know want to stay here and continue to be treated this way or go home where you're not the minority?"

What do you think of Akon's words?
