Ab-Soul spoke with Rolling Stone to promote his forthcoming Herbert album, which drops December 16.

In one part of the chat, Soulo implied that he tried to take his own life, something that the Rolling Stone writer said he told him.

Details surrounding the alleged suicide attempt are unclear since the rapper spoke in generalities, but he did say 2021 was one of the hardest years of his life. Ab-Soul also said much of the material on Herbert was crafted prior to the alleged attempt.

“Most of what you’ve heard, I wrote before … it,” he clarified. “I just wanna make it clear: You see me smiling, but it’s not funny. I think that’s just my way of healing from it ... We’re all going through things, all of us. Me sharing my testimony — if it doesn’t help, it might let you know you’re not the only one going through it. That’s what ultimately gives me the courage to put it out there.”

Soulo is hopefully in a better place these days and getting some help. Are you excited about his LP?
