Ace Hood Was Scared To Approach DJ Khaled After Leaving His Label

Ace Hood stopped by Hot 97 recently, and one of the things he talked about was his relationship with DJ Khaled. Ace was signed to Khaled's We the Best Music Group but said he left to get more creative control.

"I think the thing that probably kind of got to me the most was just that I didn't feel like I had much creative control, and I learned that on the back end," he explained. "Once I started to [tell Khaled] 'I wanted to sound like this, I want to work with this person, this person, this person,' it kind of ruffled feathers a little bit, so it weirded me out ... So I started growing and understanding and asking more question, and anytime you start from a place of not asking question to now I'm asking questions, it raises eyebrows."
Later in the interview, Ace said that after leaving the label, he hadn't spoken to Khaled for almost a year, because he was afraid to approach him since he'd become a big star.

"It was probably like eight months to a year we hadn't spoke, because I didn't know how to approach him at this point, because this wasn't the same Khaled that I knew ... that I thought in my mind," said Ace. "You know, this is the huge star and Snapchat and everything is poppin' ... It was that thing of just a little fear."
Do you think it was smart for Ace to leave We the Best Music Group or was it smarter for him to stick with Khaled and deal with not having all the creative control he wanted?
