2 Milly Sues Fortnite For Swiping "Milly Rock" Dance

by HHL JT

Fortnite makes some of its money by selling "emotes" of dance moves.

This includes BlocBoy JB's "Shoot" dance, Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like Its Hot" move and 2 Milly's "Milly Rock."

It's a controversial practice and one that Chance The Rapper called out earlier this year.

Fortnite should put the actual rap songs behind the dances that make so much money as Emotes. Black creatives created and popularized these dances but never monetized them. Imagine the money people are spending on these Emotes being shared with the artists that made them

Now 2 Milly [Terrence Ferguson] is suing Fortnite's developer Epic Games for swiping his moves.

In the suit, the Brooklyn rapper argues Epic “should not be able to profit from Ferguson’s fame and hard work by its intentional misappropriation of Ferguson’s original content or likeness." They add that Epic “consistently sought to exploit African-American talent in particular in Fortnite by copying their dances and movements.”

No word on how much Milly is seeking from Epic, which has made over a billion in revenue on Fortnite. But a couple of million would wrap things up nicely.

Do you think he has a case? If he wins, it would open up huge legal liability for Epic, who have also taken many emojes from non-Hip Hop creators.
