T.I. has taken responsibility for the creation of trap music before.
But his latest comments are his most extreme assertion of genre ownership.
He made them during an interview with Angie Martinez, after saying that both his new solo album and a Hustle Gang album would be coming this year.
"A lot of people they don't really, really know that I created trap music," he bragged. "There was no such thing as trap prior to [me] -- no such thing, it didn't exist. It was Outkast and crunk." "Because the first album I did, people who heard it they didn't know where I was from," Tip continued. "'Is he from Atlanta? He raps too good. Is he from New York? Where is he from.' So, Trap Muzik was like establishing a sound, like this is who I am."Do you agree with Tip flat saying that trap music didn't exist until he brought it on?
