On Monday, Pharrell shared the tragic news that his cousin Donovon Lynch was shot and killed by police in Virginia Beach on Friday, March 26, 2021.

One report says that police responded to a shooting where they saw Lynch, who pulled out a gun, so they opened fire. That same report also states the weapon was found at the scene, but NBC 12 says it was found in the vicinity.

"The loss of these lives is a tragedy beyond measure," wrote Pharrell, who in 2020 explained why he has no problem calling the police on someone. "My cousin Donovon was killed during the shootings. He was a bright light and someone who always showed up for others. It is critical my family and the other victims’ families get the transparency, honesty and justice they deserve. Virginia Beach is the epitome of hope and tenacity and, as a community, we will get through this and come out even stronger."

Condolences go out to Pharrell and his family.
