Jay Z and TIDAL lost Drake after some slick maneuvering from Apple.
But yesterday they gained Drake's Young Money boss Lil Wayne.
Wayne dropped his new single 'Glory' exclusively on TIDAL. (Well, it was exclusive for about a second ...) Then TIDAL announced Weezy was joining the streaming service as an artist owner.
"We’re honored for Lil Wayne to join TIDAL,” said a company rep in a press release. "His eagerness to release an exclusive TIDAL track and schedule a TIDAL X performance is just another example of how passionately artists care about getting their music to fans."There is also word that Lil Wayne may release his Free Weezy Album project on TIDAL.
It's still unclear if Free Weezy is an album or a mixtape, and Tunechi's ability to put it on TIDAL probably depends on that designation. And if it does drop on TIDAL, it wouldn't technically be "free", as previously promised.
